Are there any Americans who moved to Australia here?
by Lady Zombie inor does anyone know someone who has moved from america to australia that i could get in touch with?.
i'm wondering how difficult a move would be, how much $$ it takes, etc.. i know the australian government won't consider granting immigration unless the candidate has job skills and/or education.
this is not a problem.

babyYagga, I have read the site you mention and I think that the description is incredibly naive and childish. The person that wrote the description on that site had a real victim mentality and seemed to be trying to blame all of the ills of the world on those she labelled narcissists.
Most people have some narcissistic traits, I sure as hell do, but I doubt you will find anyone who ticks all of the boxes in the description you mention. -

Any Jericho Fans?
by CaptainSchmideo intonight was (apparently) the final episode, as cbs has made the incredibly brain dead decision to cancel it.. i liked it.
the conspiracy plot kinda dragged on and on, but some of the other subplots and ideas (especially about the corporatization of america, and the obligation of citizens to reject a government that no longer represents the interests of the people) were not normal television fodder.. oh, well.
it was a good experience while it lasted..... .

I loved Jericho, I downloaded episode 7 last night so I will be watching it tonight, I was completely bummed to have waited so long for season 2 only to have it canned so quickly. CBS are friggin stupid, there are very few decent drama series out any more.

Freemasons...who are you?
by feenx ini saw in a different post there was a discussion about jw's being linked to freemasons.
one poster replied that they were a mason and they know for sure there's no link.
that got me to thinking...i've never had any contact with an actual mason.

I am a member of a craft lodge here in Australia, that means I am just a common or garden Freemason in a lodge that performs the first 3 "Degrees" of Freemasonry. There are a number of side orders which extend the ceremonial work beyond the basic 3 degrees which are a form of moral illustration to the candidate. I guess you could say there are parallel between this and the dramas at the assemblies.
Freemasonry is "a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated in symbols". So what it is trying to do is instill a respect for moral values on it's members by illustrating the importance and benefit of behaving in a positive moral fashion.
Uzzah has already mentioned that the fraternity is something of a shadow of former times, there are still some very influential people who are Masons but for the most part we are ordinary people who are interested in do a little something for charity and meeting with friends a couple of times a month. -

We used to play badminton on a sunday night with a group of witnesses, it must have been about 1987 and I was 15 and really starting to think for myself. I was chatting to an older sister about bits and pieces and she mentioned something about microwave ovens, saying that she would not buy one herself because the organisation had not sanctioned them in the litereature.
That was a tipping point for me, it really shocked me that someone could hand over responsibility for decisions so basic as the purchase of a kitchen appliance to a group of religious fundamentalists who had no scientific training. If these people are prepared to hand over responsibility for simple decisions then what sort of mindless morons are being developed? Mindless people believe anything, so how much of the rest of it is bullshit?
Then they made a big deal about beards, so where is the scriptural ban on beards? -

My First Counselling Session. EDMR anybody?
by Crumpet inso it hadn't escaped my attention that two weeks ago i was melting faster than a snowman on a lava flow path.. i had to do something.
i ended up in hospital.
i hoped this would mean i'd get help, not just medication, which i've tried for 6 months and hasn't really helped.

I know absolutely nothing about EDMR but that was a wonderfully evocative piece of writing.
I wish you every success and am proud of you for having the balls to take what must have been one hell of a scary first step.

Sorry
by sass_my_frass intomorrow is such a huge day for australia; our brand-new pm will open his governments' first parliamentary session with the long-awaited apology to aboriginal australians for the time in our recent history when it was policy to remove aboriginal children from their parents.
in some places it was out of fear of abuse, in others it was just considered the best way to integrate part-aboriginal children into white society.
families were broken up, most for nobody's good.

Brinjen, friends of mine have worked in outback communities as nurses, teachers and miners all in various places throughout WA and the NT. All have told me many tales of the rampant alcohol abuse throughout aboriginal communities where even teenage boys will rape and assault their grandmothers. The recent case of 10 guys going through a young girl in local authority care was not just shocking, it was sad to learn that the girl was sexualised from the age of 7 and was regularly offering herself in return for cigarettes.
My closest friend works in the department of criminal justice for the WA state and the proportion of the custodial population in WA that is Aboriginal is nearly 3 times the proportion in the general population.
Look, I understand the great injustice that was done and I in no way condone the obviously rascist policies of the past BUT it grinds on my nerves that there is a two tier legal system where Aboriginals are given far greater leeway to commit crime and unsociable behaviour just because of their so called "culture" and colour of their skin. People who don't want to work should not expect to be kept by those of us that are socially responsible; there is no excuse whatsoever for the lack of interest in achieving nothing more than a Homes West house and an alcohol habit.
The Aboriginal communitee doesn't do itself any favours; The issues are not being addressed adequately within the community and this constantly plays out in the media in the sort of cases we have seen recently.
